Disability Management Consultant

 

This position will manage occupational and non-occupational medical and disability issues of employees to resolution in a manner which provides appropriate medical care and is expedient, efficient, cost effective and consistent with Safety & Health goals and "Our Values" culture. This is accomplished by working closely with Disability Management Team members, health care professionals, corporate legal counsel, company HR representatives and company management in Southern Company.

 

This position will be housed in a location to be determined in the Central Region of Georgia.

Job Requirements

  • RN (active license in state of practice) required. Bachelor's degree in nursing strongly preferred. Master's degree in Health Science, Rehabilitation Counseling or related field preferred.
  • Working knowledge of disability management practices, and professional code of conduct, Georgia Workers Compensation laws, Family Medical Leave Act regulations, American's with Disability Act, 1973 Rehabilitation Act-Section 503, medical privacy regulations and Human Resources Management practices preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and apply disability related benefit policies and plans.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work direction.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently manage time, priorities and professional relationships.
  • Strong clinical assessment and medical treatment skills.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work away from home for extended periods (up to 2 weeks) during emergency storm restoration duty.
  • Available for daily travel within the service territory.
  • Available for "24x7 on call" assistance approximately 1 week per month.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate activities related to medical management of injury/illness cases under the guidance of corporate medical directors.
  • Coordinate the accommodation process for client departments according to the ADA Regulations. Includes job analysis and return to work activities.
  • Assist management in determining employee Fitness for Duty and coordination of related processes.
  • Communicate clearly and timely with management, employees, medical director, and fellow Disability Management team members. Consult with employees and management on applicability of other available resources (LTD, Workers Compensation, Medical Benefits, EAP/Mental Health Benefits, Fitness for Duty Exams, Etc.)
  • Provide on-site support for mandatory physicals (DOT, ERT, OSHA)
  • Support employee Health and Wellness initiatives, including health fairs, immunizations, health education and SouthernLifeStyle programs.
  • Available for "24x7 on call" assistance approximately 1 week per month.
  • Provide medical support for employees working on storm restoration.
