AWARD CRITERIA for the
Dr. Jack Hughston Nursing Humanitarian Award
The Award
This award, named in the honor of Dr. Jack Hughston, founder of the Hughston Clinic in Columbus, Georgia, recognizes and honors an individual GAOHN member who advances human rights and reinforces the dignity and worth of all human beings. The chosen recipient has practiced and promoted compassion through honesty, truthfulness, responsibility, and compassion. This award was established in 2010. Financial support for the award comes from The Hughston Clinic.
Criteria
• An active member of the Georgia Association of Occupational Health Nurses who has exhibited:
o Leadership- Has gone above and beyond the call of duty to lead
o Courage- Has faced difficult situations, danger, pain and bravery, without fear
o Mentorship-A supportive relationship established between two individuals where knowledge, skills and experience are shared
o Dedication-Someone with the quality of being devoted and committed to Occupational Health Nursing
o Volunteerism-Not just community services, but improving the lives of others

Dr. Jack Hughston, founder of The Hughston Clinic and the Hughston Foundation, had a favorite saying, “As long as you’re green, you’re still growing. Once you’re ripe, you’re next to rotten”. For Dr. Hughston, growing meant being educated and educating others. Dr. Hughston was a visionary, his mission states, “to help people in all walks of life attain the highest possible levels of musculoskeletal health, fitness, and athletic prowess by providing national and international leadership in orthopaedic and sports medicine, research, education and communication.”
