GAOHN Spotlight: Ronda Weiss

This month's GAOHN Spotlight is on Ronda Weiss!

Learn more about Ronda in her own words below:

My career started with a terrific mentor who encouraged me to become an Occupational Health Nurse. (I was an EMT at the time). He saw the value of Occupational Health Nurses and our ability to go beyond medical care.  He believed that cross-training Occupational Health Nurses in Safety and Ergonomics would provide the best outcomes as we are able to see the bigger picture in the health and well-being of employees. I am grateful and privileged to still call my mentor my friend.  I strive to be as good as mentor to others as he was to me.  He encouraged me to get my nursing degree of which I continued with ongoing education in getting a Master of Science, Master of Public Health (focusing on Occupational Health and Safety), Master of Business Administration and my COHN-S.  I am currently beginning my journey to get my safety certifications as well.  I have worked in Environmental Health and Safety for over 20 years.  During that time I have had the opportunity of working in broad and diverse industries including manufacturing, distribution, healthcare, retail, field services, pipeline, insurance and consulting. I enjoy developing comprehensive safety and health programs that support employee health and safety as well as the organization’s compliance and fiscal goals. Within those industries I have work in many capacities including, but not limited to, OSHA compliance, medical surveillance, disability management, needs and risk assessment of safety and health programs with mitigation of risks, and many others.

I have served on the local, state and national levels for AAOHN. Serving on the Board of Directors and on various committees has been an honor.  It has provided growth in the workings of a Board of Directors.  I have also developed lifelong friendships and networks. I would encourage all members to get involved with GAOHN and AAOHN.

On a personal level I have been married to my wonderful husband for 26 years.  We have three children, Dylan (25), Tanner (22) and Kaitlin (19).  We are originally from Minnesota (and are still die-hard Vikings fans!) but have lived in Georgia for 13 years (Go Dawgs!).  Although we are about 20 years away from retiring, we bought our dream home in the mountains of North Georgia.  It has amazing mountain views and displays the beauty of God’s creation every day!  We are blessed.
