Posted over 5 years ago by Sequoyah Brown

October's GAOHN Spotlight is on Renee Williams-Hope! Get to know Renee in her own words.....

I am Renee Williams-Hope, a child of God, who always had the desire and compassion to help people. I have been told often by my mother and other family members that, as a little girl, whenever they visited the sick that I wanted to go along, and even for my own doctor’s appointments, I was always praying for others and trying to offer my help. I’m happy and proud to say that the vision of health care in my life was ordained by God, and was instilled in me by my grandmother, mother, and a few aunts, who were nurses and/or worked in the medical field. I have been a Registered Nurse for over 25 years.

During my tenure, I have provided care in various service areas including nursing homes, Neuro unit, ICU, home care, detox, as a school nurse, public health, and psych. For the past eleven years I have dedicated my time as an Occupational Health Nurse for the United states Postal Services for the Atlanta District. As part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, I have obtained knowledge that has allowed me to provide health and wellness guidance to our postal employees using various platforms like safety wellness talks, including the importance of preventative screening such as mammograms, flu clinic, BP, BS, BMI and CHO. I have also been instrumental in planning health fairs and the Postal Employees Save a Life/Be the Match initiative. and I plan on setting up more large-scale events, such as blood drives as well. Additionally, I am an active participant-member of our Ergonomic, Joint Safety, Health, and Labor, Emergency Response, and Building inspection teams. As a member of the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN), I worked on the Practice Committee that developed Multistate Practices and revised the Code of Ethics, as well as volunteered at the 2016 AAOHN Conference as a Poster Contest judge, and booth representative,

Outside of the Post Office, I participate in community services that include feed the homeless, setting up and participating in events at women’s and children’s shelters, providing mammography screenings at church health fairs, and visiting nursing homes and extended stay hotels. I have also provided vital and significant contribution to the American Red Cross by setting up blood drives in the community for which I received a plaque of recognition.

When I am not working, I love and value my family, roller skating, going to the movies, plays, jazz concerts, cruises, and sporting events (Go Falcons!) I’m blessed to be the mother of one daughter, Faith, and one granddaughter, Noa.

Thank you,

Renee Williams-Hope, RN, BSN, OHN
